Rockville United Church arose from the commitment of two congregations to join together to worship but also to extend God's healing presence in our community. Since 1967, Community Ministries of Rockville has been supported by RUC. Our pastor has served as the executive director of CMR. Members of our congregation serve as volunteers, board members and staff.
CMR provides a threefold service for the community:
Advocacy - helping establish shelters, centers like Manna Food Center and Montgomery Habitat for Humanity; networking in coalitions like the Caregivers' Coalition; sharing resources such as office space with groups like Affiliated Community Counselors.
Direct Services - REAP (Rockville Emergency Assistance Program) assists in paying rent, keeping on peoples' heat in their homes, and providing medicine. The Senior Assistance Program serves the needs of the frail elderly.
Education - provides resources on key issues such as the need for low/moderate income housing, and makes needs visible in its annual Good Friday Pilgrimage through Rockville's streets.
